The Listening Together Project

Researchers at the Australian National University are studying how young people with disability and young carers define good listening, and whether they feel listened to by the organisations and services in their lives. This project is co-designed with a group of young people with disability and young carers, including Simone Bartram, Talon Cass-Dunbar, Megumi Kawada and Luci McClusky.

About the study
We are looking to recruit people who:
  • Are 15 – 29 years old; and
  • Live in Australia; and
  • Identify as a person with disability or a person who looks after (or cares for) another person, such as an elderly family member or a friend with disability.
Participating in the study is voluntary. Participants will be asked to respond to one of the two surveys available.
  • The longer survey will take about 20 – 40 minutes to complete. It asks questions about the services that that survey participant uses or has used in the past, what they think good listening looks like and how they think people can listen to you better. It also asks some questions about the survey participants, including about their age and gender.
  • The shorter survey only has seven questions. It will take about 10-20 minutes, and it is designed to be easier to respond to. Participants can answer the main question in any way they like, such as with a drawing, a photo, an audio recording, or a written response.
Your help
If you are happy to assist us, you could help in the following ways:
  • Share the project website with people who may be interested in the research.
  • Post the recruitment flyer (attached to this email) on your website and social media platforms, and/or share them in any newsletters or email networks that you may have.
  • Identify potential participants and give them the easy read and/or full version of the survey information sheet. The potential participant can then choose whether they want to complete the survey. Both information sheets are attached to this email and available on the FAQs page of the project website.
