Winston has been a key driver of the Canberra CareersXpo for more than a decade. Schools from across the ACT and surrounding NSW regions are invited to attend the Canberra CareersXpo free of charge, as is the general public. This includes parents/carers of young people, and young people that may not be enrolled in school.
In recent years this event has been attended by an average of 8,000 young people from schools across the ACT and surrounding NSW regions and is the only large-scale careers event available for ACT residents to attend within our local region.
While schools hold their own career days, none can compare to the breadth and depth of opportunities on offer at the Canberra CareersXpo. Without this event, thousands of young people would be limited in their understanding of the vast range of further education, volunteering, and/or work opportunities available to them.
Winston and a small team work with 40+ volunteers to ensure the event is inclusive and accessible to all young people from, with the 2024 night time session of the event having an inclusion focus.
Through the event, many young people gain valuable career education, work experience, employment, and make informed choices about the subjects they study in college, or future employment opportunities.
Winston pulls the entire event together and manages the Canberra CareersXpo website year-round, as he has an enormous passion to support young people to be well informed about the diverse range of opportunities available to them.
