Youth Week 2010
Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD)
posted 25 March 2010
YHMD is about raising the public's awareness about youth homelessness and to celebrate the resilience of young people who are experiencing homelessness in Australia. The theme for YHMD, 'Countdown... Everyone Counts.' aims to: reflect the fact that youth homelessness affects a range of young people in different circumstances and for different reasons; highlight the Australian Government's current commitment to reduce homelessness; and, remind the community that homelessness is 'everyone’s responsibility'.
YHMD will provide young people and youth services in the ACT with an opportunity to come together to raise awareness of youth homelessness in the Canberra community.
- Construct the YHMD Tepee, created in conjunction with young people accessing youth homelessness services in the ACT and Galilee LIFT Project.
- Grab a team of 4 to build your own castle from recycled cardboard boxes and decorate them with YOUR opinions on what counts with YWCA SCOPE's Cardboard Castle Competition.
- Hang in the YWCA SCOPE Outreach Lounge (S.O.L.) and chat with mates, workers and other interesting people.
- BBQ Lunch, hosted by CatholicCare, Canberra and Goulburn
- See what homelessness looks like in the collaborative street theatre performance 'I count'
- Live Music, DJ, Prizes and Giveaways!

Would your organisation like to display their information and or services to the public? The National Youth Week Expo is on the 9 April 2010 at Garema Place 4–8pm.
The annual National Youth Week Expo aims to promote young peoples, their art, music, and engages youth and other community service organisations to provide information, and activities for and about young people. The Expo event will have exhibitions, information stalls, performances, demonstrations, live music and theatre for and by young people aged 12 to 25 years old.
We are interested in hearing from community groups and services, young people, public institutions, private businesses and philanthropic organisations who are keen to be involved.
We are especially interested in engaging organisations supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, multicultural young people, and young people in detention.
